Skills Session - Stretch

4th March 2022

In today's session, we explored the properties of stretch fabric and how they react in different ways to different pressures and processes.

We then got to test it out for ourselves, this was the first time I had used stretch fabric so I was excited to learn new skills and techniques. We started with pre-cut pattern pieces to make a basic Leotard and lay them out on the table so we could clearly show how they went together.

I was able to use the overlocker confidently to join the Leotard together which will help it to keep its stretch properties but also take the shape of a Leotard. As it began to take shape I could tell how the processes worked together using the interfacing and the overlocker. I also confidently added an invisible zip to the garment and finally bound the edges.

I bound the armholes using a machine that is more commonly used in industry. I enjoy learning new skills and techniques so this session was a huge treat.

I have added some pictures below of the process and the final leotard, although it is not perfect I am extremely pleased with how it turned out.
