In this morning’s session we looked at different types of fastenings used in theatre costumes. When making costumes in the theatre the actors have to be prepared for quick changes. There are several different types of fastenings that you can use which are used for different purposes. For example, you could attach velcro this would be quick to remove during a quick change. However, velcro can be very noisy which could be heard by the audience, which is not very professional. Another type of fastening are press studs, these are effective when wanting to make a quick change although sometimes they can be difficult to separate. The task of sewing press studs onto fabric was straightforward. The final example is magnets, they can be used to secure a costume securely until the costume change is required. This is one of the most effective ways to fasten parts of a costume together, however they can be expensive to purchase. The afternoon session was to analyse and break down a script for the Forbidden Planet theatre production. I found the approach to the script analysis was more straightforward than a film or T.V. script.
