Prop making is a vital part of being a costume designer, there are many ways to make props depending on what the prop is, and what the purpose is for the prop. Examples of materials and processes used include vac form, millinery, very foam and plastic foam to name a few, basically anything you can find that is fit for purpose.
We then went on to explore different types of material and fabric and look at their properties and structure. after looking at many examples of masks, bodices and hats, I found that paper mache still plays a huge part in creating certain props. I thought this process was messy and time-consuming and almost not professional enough however some of my favourite examples were made from paper-mache.
Following the lecture, we were tasked to quickly come up with our own prop bracelets , bangles or arm attachments. After a few minutes, we presented our creations to the group.
