Today Chloe and I visited two local museums in Manchester, the Manchester Art Gallery and the Science and Industry Museum.
Manchester Art Gallery
I always enjoy going to and exploring museums, although I have been to this museum many times it's always a treat! There were many exhibitions out on display some new and some I have seen before. My favourite pieces of work were surprisingly not made by a famous artist or designer, in fact, it was made by children who have visited the museum with their families. I am always fascinated by how children's work always seems to tell a story, much like a famous designer. However, they don't think about what they are designing they just go with the flow and use their favourite colours and their favourite things as inspiration. As a designer, it takes weeks/months to design something that really tells a story. However, sometimes you just need a pack of crayons and go with the flow and see where it takes you!!
The Science and Industry Museum
In the afternoon we ventured over to the Science and Industry museum, where we were able to explore the textiles gallery. It was amazing to see all the industrial machines which were used to create cloth in the past. I enjoyed reading about the process of how cotton was brought by canal boats to the cotton mills in Manchester and was then used to make clothes. I found out that Manchester was the centre for bleaching, dying and transforming fabrics into articles of clothing.
