This project includes many elements, working on this scale was incredibly difficult and time-consuming. Every hand took me over half an hour to mould the FIMO onto the wire template.
To make the wire base, I used Tim’s hand template to get the shape and then I manipulated the wire further to make them even smaller. Once this was created, I used a magnifying glass and a pin to place the FIMO clay onto the wire; this was time-consuming and fiddly. But very rewarding at the same time. seeing the hands in pairs in a row on the table.
To keep the movement within the hands for the animation, I painted a thin coat of latex over the hands to protect them. This also took a considerable amount of time not only to paint the latex on but to wait for the latex to set. To speed this up, I placed them in the oven at a temperature which was warm enough to set the latex but not too hot that the FIMO would set into place.
