Today I completed the first of many felt experiments, I started off by creating a fully wet felted coat and a Nuno felted coat. To create 3D shapes in felt, you need to add a resistor in-between the fibres to prevent them from fusing together. For these experiments, I have used a pond liner between the fleece layers.
For this coat, I have used Merino fleece using the wet felting technique. This took over five hours to make, but unfortunately, it was too big for my armature model! In this experiment, I learned that making small items from felt can be very unpredictable.
This coat is made using the Nuno felting technique; I discovered once the coat was felted that the top of the arms had slightly fussed together. This happened because sadly the pond liner moved during the felting process.
