After many design ideas here are our final five:
Design One:
Here is my first design which is based on ivy which is found in all parks and gardens. It's usually found climbing up walls and trees and seems to creep around giving it a magical feel. As you can
see I have draped the ivy from head to toe which shows how nature continues to grow and there is no end. I have designed this costume so that it can be altered depending on the size of the child or adult.
I have chosen to use the colour green as it is the predominant colour in parks and gardens, the costume wouldn’t look out of place if it was seen in the Secret Garden. All of my designs include wings to bring together the insects and the birds that appear in parks and gardens. I believe it brings an enchanted element into the costume.
Design Two:
In this design the ivy has started to creep in on the waist of the dress once again, giving the impression of the unknown. This design is more delicate and reflects the plants and flowers within the secret garden..
The dress includes predominantly a pink colour palette which has a delicate fairy feel, it also includes elements of green which reflects parks and gardens. I wanted to make the costume to look magical and that would not look out of place in the Secret Garden, a place of mystery and enchantment.
Design Three:
This is my third design which is inspired by topiary trees, I have always found these to be interesting how gardeners manage to cut them into all sorts of different designs,
For this design I wanted to include a shape which will reflect the float and the Secret Garden. The spiral topiary tree design has included colourful flowers and adds a fairytale feel and a sense of mystery. The wings are in the shape of a dove which represents the peace that you will find in a secret garden, the heads of the doves can be seen on the reverse of the costume.
Design Four:
This is my fourth design using my favourite elements from costumes one,two and three. This includes the halter neck top from design one, the ivy placed on the waist line from design two and the topiary tree skirt from design three. This will be the costume for my final piece on the half scale mannequin. This will be a very challenging design to make, as there are several elements to the costume.
Design Five:
Arianna and I decided that we would each create a costume using two elements from each others designs. We both had strong elements within our costumes and wanted to create something together that would represent both of our unique designs in one. We both decided that the mask and the cage skirt were the stronger elements within Arianna’s costumes and so these are what I have incorporated.
