At last, it's in, I can't believe I have just submitted my dissertation!!!
Although there have been many ups and downs with it, I am so pleased I picked a topic that inspired me and something I am very passionate about.
'How Do Children's Television Programmes Influence The Development
Of Identity In Childhood?'
The above was my final question for my dissertation, after doing extensive research into children's television and the benefits of having positive role models on television. It was a no brainer to write my dissertation on this, especially after my experience working as a costume trainee on Andy and the Band.
Andy and the Band were my biggest inspiration for my dissertation, after talking with the cast and crew, I started to understand how much children are influenced by what they watch on television. Unless you have grown up as part of a big family you don't always remember how important children's television is. In my household being the eldest of four we never really stopped watching CBeebies, this was because as soon as one of my sisters grew out of it the next one was just getting into it! This meant that for most of my life I have been up to date on children's television programmes. But this always seemed normal to me it's only when I started talking more about this with my peers that I found out that most people have forgotten all about children's television programmes and their importance of them. They not only entertain children but teach them many life skills and show them that being unique is okay!!
It was an absolute dream come true working with the band and supporting the costume department. Playing a small part in every aspect helped me to get a feel for what I enjoyed the most and what I needed to work on in my last year at university. By having primary experience, I was able to apply this to my dissertation by using direct quotes from the band and images to support this. This then made my dissertation very personal to me and my experiences which is what I always like to implement in my work.
