Hand in day, I can't believe how fast this project has gone, after five short weeks I have managed to create a sea goddess costume with a head dress and cape. This has not been an easy task but I have enjoyed every element. I have learnt so much from this project from the research to the production process each element has had there own challenges which I have managed to work through.

Starting off with the research, for every image in my sketchbook I have referenced them with a numbered Figure, in total I had over 190 Figures. This took a long time to organise how many images per page? were the sources accurate? and then placing them in numerical order. Following my research I used several artists in my sketchbook, I also included a bibliography. When the research booklet was complete I printed it out on to sketchbook pages and bound it together, this was also a lengthy process but I am very proud with the final outcome of the booklet, I feel that the final outcome looks very professional.

Moving onto the costume I started off with the creation of the cape this was crocheted using thick wool to give a fishing net look. The final outcome was much more realistic then I had imagined. I thought the final cape looked very much like a fishing net.

Next I started work on the willow skirt, the structure of the skirt was completed and looked strong and surprisingly not very heavy. The model tried it on and she could move it from side to side with little effort which is what I had hoped. I then proceeded to fill the sections with recycled material, scraps of fabric which I had from previous projects, felt work and crochet work. My favourite aspect of the skirt was that I included some personal elements. each section had a story behind it. I included my old pencil case from secondary school, a poncho patch which I wore at Alton towers and many other family holidays, one of the back panels is part of my little sisters reading folder and sections from my old jeans. An Ikea bag and part of a washing bag.

The last element I made was the headdress, I started off by making a willow hoop which linked the costume altogether. After this I started to add shells which I had previously collected, however I still wanted to add more height to my costume. We are in the process of moving house so our our Christmas decoration box had been brought out from the attic. I included a coral decoration into the headdress it finished the outfit off just as I had imagined.

Overall I felt the costume was a huge success it is bright, colourful, and incorporates my family. The length of the costume is long enough for a stilt walker and moves beautifully when the performer is dancing as seen here.

Elements I would change if I made this costume again would be to find a solution to make the costume a little lighter in weight, although my model said that it wasn't that heavy when the weight was distributed around her waist.
